reviews
"She’s an artist I’ve adored for a really long time…[who’s] also been triumphant in the Welsh language music scene after her debut album ‘Y Drefn’…won the Welsh language album of the year…and she’s such a power house vocalist" SIAN ELERI (SELECTOR RADIO / BBC RADIO 1)
"North Walian Artist 'Mared' aka Mared Williams releases stunning new 'Lately' single on the 5th of April 2024. Taken from forthcoming EP 'Better late than never' 'Lately' is a wonderfully intimate homage to the 'Laurel Canyon' attitudes of the early seventies." GRAEME SMITH (YORK CALLING)
"If ‘Lately’ is anything to go by it will be a spell binding release. Mared shows off her soulful, and delicate and compassionate tone that sketches out this gorgeous piece of song writing that peers into the future and holds onto hope, illuminated by Mared’s vocals that are woven by elements of classical folk and tinged with the embers of 80s soul and framed in wispy guitar motifs and sweeping production." BILL CUMMINGS (GOD IS IN THE TV ZINE)
"‘lately’ can easily sit beside Adele, Duffy and Lizzy McAlpine; however, there is an indefinable ease to Mared surpassing the established names...Warm, rich and bold, Mared draws you into a comfortable hug with a huge smile on her face."NICOLE MENDES (THE OTHER SIDE REVIEWS)
short bio
Mared's rural upbringing results in an intriguing blend of Welsh folk infused soul-pop. Her debut bilingual album, 'Y Drefn' was awarded Welsh Album of The Year in 2021 (BBC Radio Cymru). Since then, Mared released EP 'Something Worth Losing' (2022) co-written with Anglesey-based producer Nate Williams and has performed her originals with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and at Sony Hall in NYC.
Mared has honed her sound and is pouring out new music in 2024, as she releases upcoming EP ‘better late than never’ on May 10th - it follows her new singles ‘pe bawn i’n rhydd’ (BBC Radio Wales’ Welsh A-list and Radio Cymru’s track of the week), ‘lately’ (a tribute to Laurel Canyon). She is also recording a full band live album supported by BBC Horizons Launchpad.
Mared’s solo gigs are intimate and powerful when she plays for herself, but in keeping with the enormous flexibility of her vocals, the full band of 7 friends has sold out and brought joy to venues such as (London): Pizza Express Holborn, Greennote Music, (Wales): Clwb Ifor Bach, Pontio and many more. This summer she played Focus Wales Showcase, alongside the North American Festival of Wales, and Sŵn Festival in Cardiff.

My EP 'better late than never' is out now!
My single 'Pe Bawn I'n Rhydd' has an official concept video out on Youtube via LWP. It was on BBC Radio Wales Welsh A-list for 3 weeks running and track of the week on Radio Cymru.
I've been awarded funding via Horizons Launchpad Scheme / Cronfa Lansio Gorwelion to record a full live album.
